Gabon is a country on the Atlantic coast of Central Africa. It lies on the Equator and borders the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon. Its small population, together with oil and mineral reserves, have helped Gabon become one of Africa’s wealthier countries. It has generally been able to maintain and conserve its rain forest and rich biodiversity and is home to 80 per cent of Africa’s gorillas. People over the age of 65 years form only 3.9% of the population of Gabon.
