Honduras is the second biggest country in Central America. It has Pacific and Caribbean coastlines and borders El Salvador, Guatemala and Nicaragua. The terrain is mountainous with narrow coastal plains. Honduras has Maya ruins, colonial villages and natural parks as well as fabulous beaches and coral reefs. Exports include bananas, coffee, wood and textiles. The Honduran currency unit, the lempira, is named after an Amerindian chief who fought to the death against the Spanish conquistadors.
