Jordan borders Israel, the West Bank, Syria, Iraq and Saudi Arabia, and it is landlocked apart from small frontages on the Red Sea and Dead Sea. Jordan receives a lot of tourists and the ancient rock-cut architecture and water conduit ruins of Petra are extremely popular. The Jordanian national dish is Mansaf, consisting of rice, lamb and yogurt – but courtesy demands that you decline the offer of this or any other meal three times before accepting.
