Mali is a landlocked country in the Sahel, bordered by Algeria, Niger, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea, Senegal, and Mauritania.. It has four UNESCO World-Heritage sites and the historic city of Timbuktu. Most Malians work in agriculture and fishing and about ten percent are nomadic. The country exports cotton, gold and livestock. The Festival in the Desert, which takes place under the moon and stars in January, consists of three days of amazing music, camel races and dancing.
