|Niger, an arid, landlocked country of the Sahel, is bordered by Algeria, Mali, Burkina Faso, Benin, Nigeria, Chad and Libya. Niger has stunning natural beauty, especially in the mountain ranges in the north of the country. The country’s main industry is mining and Niger is one of the world’s largest producers of uranium ore. In the Sahara, there are some interesting old trading centers with Hausa arhcitecture, such as Agadez and Zinder, that emanate a mixture of Arab/Tuareg and black African culture. Near Koure, in the south west of Niger, can be seen West Africa’s last remaining herd of giraffe.
