The Sultanate of Oman lies at the eastern end of the Arabian Peninsula and borders the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Yemen. It was once one of the richest countries in the world due to incense and ship building. Frankincense and myrtus communis (used to make perfume) grow wild in Oman and exporting these rare plants brought in great wealth. Nowadays Oman is a popular tourist destination due to its rugged landscape, forts and pristine coastline.
