Qatar is a peninsula jutting into the Arab Gulf and has borders with Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. Although Qatar is one of the smallest countries in the world, its oil reserves have made it one of the richest. Natural gas production and export are becoming increasingly important and Qatar’s proven reserves are the world’s third largest. All this is a far cry from the fishing and pearl diving of the past. The sea nowadays provides excellent opportunities for water sports.
