Tunisia is the northernmost country in Africa and bordered by Algeria, Libya and the Mediterranean Sea. It has a very diverse climate and landscape – snow in the northwest, the hot Sahara desert in the south, rugged mountains and beaches. Tunisia is a leading producer of copper, textiles and mechanical goods. Many ancient Phoenician, Roman, Vandal and Byzantine ruins exist in Tunisia – including those of the city-state of Carthage.
