Vanuatu is an island nation which is located in the South Pacific ocean approximately 1090 miles east of northern Australia. This island archipelago consists of 82 islands, 65 which are inhabited. The archipelago also sits upon one of the more active volcano rings in the South Pacific, both above and below the water. One of the traditions of these hearty island people are their meeting houses or “nakamal” where they meet to drink the traditional kava. There are special places reserved for both the males and females to meet and drink.
