To Inch

To Inch largeJill Peer

Inch by inch the wagtails sweep
Round and round up and down the beach.

Storm clouds fade away the hills.
Breezy early morning chills.
Surf school flags waving me goodbye
Misty clouds sweep across the sky.

Inch by inch the Wagtails sweep
Round and round up and down the beach.

Autumn flowers are black and drying
In the Strand Hotel supper’s frying.
Seaweed heaped up on the shingle
Late night bathers move on to Dingle.

Inch by inch the Wagtails sweep
Round and round up and down the beach

Get your surfboards, snacks and all
Here at Sammy’s Grocery Store.
See the menu in the café,
You can board if you want to stay.

Inch by inch the Wagtails sweep
Round and round up and down the beach

Sitting on guard are 3 wild cats.
Different shades and rather fat.
Kindly hotel cooks and waiters
Probably give waste fish and potatoes.

Inch by inch the Wagtails sweep
Round and round up and down the beach.
